Winery
Established by Ron and Elva Laughton, Jasper Hill has been a small family business ever since their first vintage in 1982. The Laughtons' two daughters Emily and Georgia now work for Jasper Hill, making wine and managing the business respectively.
Both Emily's and Georgia's Paddocks are elevated at an altitude of 320 metres. The soils are rusty red with well drained gravelly loams covering undulating hillsides. A third vineyard at Cornella is 20 kilometres north, still within the Heathcote region. Viticultural practices emphasize biodiversity. Vines are planted on their own roots with minimal tillage and natural inter-row mulching. Unirrigated, they produce low yields. The vines are hand pruned and grapes hand harvested.
Jasper Hill's sought after red wines have become synonymous with Heathcote. The lead wines are Emily's Paddock Shiraz Cabernet Franc and Georgia's Paddock Shiraz. Other highlights include their Georgia's Paddock Riesling and Nebbiolo.
