Former Royal Australian Navy pilot and corporate winemaker Adam Richardson and wife Eva established A.T. Richardson Wines in 2005. After a decade long search they purchased a small vineyard just outside Great Western in the cool climate Grampians.

Their Hard Hill Road Vineyard lies along a ridgeline on unyielding ironstone and quartz soils. Its north-east facing slopes capture the early morning sun – essential when the weather cools – and shelter the vines from brisk southerly winds. These circumstances conspire to produce intense flavours. ATR Wines produce the traditional varieties Shiraz and Riesling with a contemporary slant. They also grow some of the Grampians' only Petite Sirah, Tannat and Nebbiolo.

ATR Wines leading Hard Hill Road range is made in small batches, its highlights the Petite Sirah, Close Planted Shiraz and Writer's Block Riesling. The Chockstone range is more approachable.
