Winery
Crawford River's first vines were planted by John and Catherine Thompson on what was originally the family sheep and cattle station established in 1884. They planted their vineyard in 1975, and Crawford River was born.
Located in the remote south-west of Victoria, the estate has been meticulously tended by hand throughout its life. Adjacent to Bass Strait, the vineyard benefits from mineral rich soils and a cool maritime climate. Riesling is the main variety. A long and even growing season produces grapes with intense flavour and high natural acidity. Learning from father John, winemaker Belinda Thomson knows patience and time are of the essence at the winery.
Crawford River is among Australia's leading Riesling producers. Reserve Riesling is the lead wine. Their entire range of Rieslings are pure, elegant expressions of their vineyard. Nektar is their celebrated sweet Riesling.
