Aged 18, John Francis Brown planted a vineyard at Milawa in Victoria's King Valley, founding Brown Brothers in 1889. Family owned and operated since its inception, the fourth generation of the Brown family now runs the business.
The Milawa vineyard in the high county of north-east Victoria remains the nerve centre of Brown Brothers. Not far from Wangaratta, it is home to their popular cellar door and innovative Kindergarten winery, dedicated to small batches and experimental wines. In 2010 they purchased Tasmania's Tamar Ridge and in 2016 the Innocent Bystander label, giving them a Yarra Valley cellar door. Today Brown Brothers produces Australia's largest range of varietal wines.
Brown Brothers top wines are led by the King Valley Patricia range, named after family matriarch Patricia Brown. Today they produce more than forty wine styles, their Prosecco and Innocent Bystander Moscato runaway successes.
