Having served with the Royal Australian Navy, Reginald Langdon Buller, not enamoured of returning to his pre-WW1 public service job, established Buller in 1921. After four generations in the Buller family, in 2013 locals Gerald and Mary Judd took ownership.
The Calliope Vineyard at Rutherglen is the original vineyard. The vines are unirrigated, producing low yields and intense flavours. Over the years the storage capacity at the Calliope winery has been expanded to accommodate the many vintages required to produce premium aged fortified wines and consistent blends. There is no substitute for time: storage is an essential element in the winemaking process.
Like Rutherglen itself, Buller is recognized as a pre-eminent fortified wine producer. Two 100/100 Robert Parker fortifieds, Calliope Rare Muscat and Calliope Rare Topaque, made from 40+ year old stocks, head the line-up.
