Built from bluestone quarried at nearby Bethany, Château Tanunda was established in 1890. Formerly owned by the Seppelt family, it was purchased by John Geber in 1998, with a vision to restore the business.

Château Tanunda's origins date back to the decimation of Europe's vineyards by the phylloxera disease. The same vines that were planted to supply a depleted Europe with wine are today a unique asset. Château Tanunda has some of the oldest vines in the Barossa (and the world) among their 100 hectares of estate owned vineyards. At the winery the combination of traditional methods with the latest technology brings out the unique character of the wines.

Acclaim came in 2010 at the International Wine and Spirit Competition with three major trophies for their Everest wines including Best Shiraz, Best Single Estate Red and Best Australian Wine Producer.
