Winery
In 2012 former Wirra Wirra winemaker New Zealand born Samantha Connew established Stargazer in Tasmania. The name pays tribute to explorer Abel Tasman, who navigated both Tasmania and New Zealand's South Island by the stars.
Stargazer's Palisander Vineyard is located at the Coal River Valley's northern end. On brown dermosol soil over Jurassic dolerite, the calcium rich soils are known for producing thicker skinned and slower ripening grapes. It is planted chiefly to Pinot Noir and Riesling with a small amount of Chardonnay, its plantings expanding with Stargazer's goal to be totally estate grown. In the winery Samantha Connew considers herself a guardian, guiding the fruit to bottle with minimal interference.
Stargazer's wines are made in tiny quantities. Alongside their varietal Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling, they also produce the red blend Rada and the white blend Tupelo.
