At the Winery

In 1989 cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realize a long held dream to make wine together. Ten years after what began as a virtual winery, Shaw + Smith built their winery at Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills.
Shaw + Smith primarily use grapes from their Lenswood and Balhannah Vineyards, with a third site at Piccadilly planted in 2020. They specialize in varieties suited to the Adelaide Hills. The region's altitude, cool dry summer and autumn ripening conditions produce grapes with ideal fruit concentration and natural acidity. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are particularly suited to these conditions. Shiraz, Riesling and Pinot Noir are equally impressive. Adam Wadewitz oversees the winemaking.
Shaw + Smith are renowned makers of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and cool climate Shiraz. The single vineyard wines lead. Their other varieties are also fine examples of Adelaide Hills wines.
