Purchasing land in the newly opened survey of the Barossa Valley, William Salter planted Saltram's inaugural vineyard in 1859. Today, as a part of Treasury Wine Estates, Saltram is a prominent Barossa Valley winery.

Saltram sits on the western ridge of the Angaston township. Their fruit primarily comes from the vineyard surrounding the winery and cellar door, with select parcels sourced from the cooler hills of the Eden Valley and warmer areas of the Barossa. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon predominate. The vines are drip irrigated – sparingly – to encourage deep root systems and smaller berries with intense, distinctively South Australian flavours.

Saltram's lead is The Journal Shiraz, sourced from centenarian vines. Of almost equal note is the No.1 Shiraz, first made in 1862. The Mamre Brook and Winemakers Selection wines follow on behind.
