Winery
In 2002 barrister and wine judge Greg Melick teamed up with Francis Douglas to establish Pressing Matters. The name comes from a Tom Samek painting that contains the winery's essential elements: wine, barrels and barristers.
The vineyard lies on a north-east facing slope in Tasmania's Coal River Valley. It is planted to Riesling and Pinot Noir, the 'noble' varieties of Greg Melick's favourite growing regions: Mosel in Germany and Burgundy in France. Yields are kept to an absolute minimum, ensuring even the relatively young Pinot Noir vines produce intense fruit. In 2019 Pressing Matters purchased the adjacent Morningside Vineyard, expanding their Riesling and Pinot Noir and adding Cabernet and Chardonnay.
Pressing Matters imbues unique Tasmanian character to their four styles of Riesling, from the super dry R0 Riesling to the sweet R139 Riesling. The Cuvée C Pinot Noir is another highlight.
