Winery
In 1847 Englishman Joseph Gilbert planted Pewsey Vale's – and the Eden Valley's – first vines. Geoffrey Angas Parson and Wyndham Hill Smith re-established the vineyard in 1961, and today Pewsey Vale is a renowned producer of Riesling.
The vines, propagated from Pewsey Vale's original 1847 plantings, sprawl along the contours of the Eden Valley. The vineyard has lean, hungry soils with rocky outcrops, rising to 500 metres altitude with a cool climate extending fruit ripening well into autumn. These are challenging conditions, but produce grapes of exceptional character. Each block is managed to its specific needs, allowing Pewsey Vale to tailor each parcel to the winery's signature style.
Pewsey Vale produced the Riesling that made the Eden Valley famous for the variety; Riesling is their sole focus. Their Museum Release The Contours Rieslings, released at 5 year and 10 year intervals, lead.
