Evans Vineyard Coonawarra
Wine
Petaluma Evans Vineyard Coonawarra is one of Coonawarra's most enduring red wine styles. It is Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, with Merlot and a touch of Shiraz and Petit Verdot.
The fruit derives mostly from the Evans Vineyard, first planted in 1969 in Coonawarra's distinctive terra rossa soil. It is handpicked and promptly transported to the winery in the Piccadilly Valley, Adelaide Hills.
The berries are destemmed, crushed and cold soaked, then the juice is inoculated with a chosen yeast. Heading down boards keep the grape skins submerged during the ferment, while drain and returns gently extract colour and tannin.
After pressing, the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and around 20 months of ageing. The best barrels are selected, blended, fined and filtered to bottle.
Rich red purple, Petaluma Evans Vineyard Coonawarra is elegantly structured and perfumed. It is typified by supple dark fruit flavours, abundant sandy tannins and savoury oak.
Pure Coonawarra through and through. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
