The Brunette Shiraz
Wine
Head Wines The Brunette Shiraz is grown atop Moppa Hill, the highest elevation on the western ridge of the Barossa. It is one of a trio which get their 'hair colour' from the soils of their respective vineyards.
The soils are red clays with seams of ironstone – brunette in colour – the grapes ripening later than The Blonde vineyard.
The fruit wild ferments in open stainless steel tanks for two weeks with a portion of whole bunches and some stem retention. Foot treading is daily; hand plunging and pump overs are twice daily.
It is matured on fine lees in new and seasoned French oak barrels for 15-18 months, then bottled without fining or filtration.
Deep purple red, Head Wines The Brunette Shiraz has rich red and black fruit flavours, fine structured tannins and lasting length. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
