Coonawarra Merlot
Wine
Leconfield Coonawarra Merlot is a fine example of the variety in Australia. It grows in Coonawarra's clay rich terra rossa soils, ideal for premium Merlot.
The fruit is sourced from mature vines planted between 1982 and 1999. Following fermentation, the wine spends extended time on skins to gain complexity and length.
The wine is then pressed and settled before being filled to barrel, predominantly seasoned French oak. Maturation occurs over 15 months with several rackings to soften the tannins.
Bright garnet, Leconfield Coonawarra Merlot is medium bodied with elegant fruit flavours, silky tannins and round acidity. Cellaring potential is eight years.
