The Absconder Grenache
Wine
Wirra Wirra The Absconder Grenache takes its name from the winery's founder, Robert Wigley, who once absconded from the law taking Adelaide's famous pie cart for a joyride.
The Absconder is sourced from one of the oldest Grenache blocks in McLaren Vale. The handpicked fruit is gently crushed and destemmed to open fermenters, with a small component of whole bunches included.
During a nine day ferment the wine is hand plunged and pumped over to achieve the desired level of tannins, colour and flavour. It is then basket pressed to stainless steel before being transferred to seasoned French oak.
After nine months maturation on lees, select barrels are blended. The wine is lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling.
Deep burgundy, Wirra Wirra The Absconder Grenache intertwines a dense core of red and blue fruits with silky tannins and notes of earth and spice. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
