Wine
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz is often referred to as 'Poor Man's Grange', in part because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange.
It was first made in 1960 by the legendary Max Schubert. This was the wine that helped forge Penfolds reputation with red wine drinkers, combining the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz.
A multi-regional South Australian blend, fruit is sourced from McLaren Vale, the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Padthaway and Wrattonbully.
It is typically 55% Cabernet and 45% Shiraz. Spending 12 months in new and seasoned American oak hogsheads, the wine exemplifies the balance of fruit and oak.
Deep red, Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz has profoundly intense aromas, sustained flavours and superb balance. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
