Wine
Houghton Gladstones Cabernet Sauvignon is named for influential viticulturist and researcher Dr John Gladstones. In 1965 he identified the suitability of Margaret River for premium grape production.
The fruit is handpicked from the mature Batley Vineyard at Wilyabrup in Margaret River, then hand sorted. It is handled separately at the winery to allow the wine to speak clearly of its single vineyard origin.
Fermentation occurs in small open top fermenters with indigenous yeast. The wine is gently basket pressed to tank and briefly allowed to settle, then transferred to new and seasoned French oak barrels.
After malolactic fermentation and one year of maturation, the wine is lightly fined and filtered for bottling.
Bright dark red, Houghton Gladstones Cabernet Sauvignon has classic varietal character with firm tannins, balanced acidity and outstanding structure. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
