Red Queen of the Eden Valley Shiraz
Wine
Dandelion Vineyards Red Queen of the Eden Valley Shiraz is sourced entirely from the late Colin Kroehn's old Eden Valley vineyard, crowned Dandelion Vineyards Red Queen.
Planted in 1912, the Shiraz vines are situated on a south facing slope. The soils are limestone bedrock and loamy sands, spectacularly coloured by quartz and ironstone. All the grapes are handpicked.
One third of the fruit is left as whole bunches; the remainder is crushed over the top. Wild fermentation occurs in open fermenters with hand plunging up to three times daily.
The wine is carefully basket pressed to half new, half one year old French oak barrels to finish fermenting and mature for over two years. It is racked only once and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Deep purple crimson, Dandelion Vineyards Red Queen of the Eden Valley Shiraz has long, spicy black fruit notes with elegant tannins and acidity. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
