Moonambel Shiraz
Wine
Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz is grown in the estate vineyard, planted along the contours of a natural amphitheatre. The very first blocks, planted in 1977, were Shiraz and Cabernet.
Near Moonambel in the heart of the Pyrenees, it is 1850s gold mining country with quartz and decomposed slatey soils over friable clays. The vineyard is dry grown and operated on organic viticultural principles.
Well drained and low yielding, the site produces small parcels of berries with concentrated flavours, from vines that have endured the parched conditions of Victoria's western district.
The fruit undergoes controlled fermentation in closed fermenters, followed by extended maceration. After basket pressing the wine matures for 16 months in French and American oak barrels.
Deep purple red, Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz has dark red cherry flavours, powerful black fruit tannins, elegant structure and subtle, integrated oak. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
