Blackbutt
Wine
Alkoomi Blackbutt is a red wine in the style of the great wines of Bordeaux in France. It is a finely tuned blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec and a small portion of Cabernet Franc.
Like each wine in Alkoomi's Icon range, Blackbutt is named after a variety of eucalypt.
The fruit is drawn from the oldest blocks of estate vines in Frankland River. The area's long, cool ripening conditions and well drained, gravelly soils are similar to those of Bordeaux.
Each variety is fermented separately in small open vats with hand plunging up to three times daily. After pressing the wine is matured in French oak barrels for 20 months.
Bright crimson, Alkoomi Blackbutt has complex layers of fruit and earthy notes, with a vibrant acid line carrying fine tannins to the finish. Cellaring potential is eight years.
