Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Dry Riesling
Wine
Jim Barry Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Dry Riesling is Australian Riesling made in a German style. It is a collaboration between vigneron Peter Barry and Ernst Loosen of Dr. Loosen Estate in Germany.
The grapes are sourced from the estate Lodge Hill Vineyard at Wolta Wolta ('good water' in the local Aboriginal language) in the Clare Valley. They are handpicked and sorted.
After resting in a cold room overnight, the fruit is destemmed, crushed and pressed to stainless steel. Here the juice settles for 12 hours.
It is then racked to a 2,800 litre German oak cask (Fuder). Wild yeast fermentation begins after five days and continues for around four weeks. Once the wine has reached the right balance of sugar and acidity, it is cooled to stop the ferment.
The wine rests on full yeast lees for 12 months at 10°C before it is transferred to stainless steel to rest on fine lees for a further 12 months.
After bottling, the wine is cellared for one year before it is released.
Pale straw, Jim Barry Loosen Barry Wolta Wolta Dry Riesling has rich fruit flavours with wet slate minerality and soft, silky acidity. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
