Buckboard Durif
Wine
Kalleske Buckboard Durif draws from a hand pruned, low yielding single vineyard at Greenock in the Barossa's north-west, sited on sandy loam soils over deep red clay.
The wine honours Kalleske's trusty horse drawn buckboard – a precursor to the modern ute – which carried countless loads of grapes over more than a century.
The grapes are destemmed and open fermented with wild yeasts. After 9-12 days on skins with hand pump overs, the wine is pressed and filled to new and seasoned American oak hogsheads.
Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally in barrel. The wine matures for one year prior to bottling.
Inky purple, Kalleske Buckboard Durif is full bodied with powerful black fruit flavours, toasty oak and structural tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
