Reserve Chardonnay
Wine
Medhurst Reserve Chardonnay draws from select rows of the winery's vineyard at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley, situated on mountain derived brown grey loam soils.
The grapes are cooled overnight then whole bunch pressed. The pristine but very cloudy juice is transferred with full solids to new and seasoned French oak.
Fermentation occurs with natural yeasts over one month. Select barrels also undergo malolactic fermentation. After 18 months in oak, the wine is blended with full lees and bottled with minimal filtration.
The bottled wine is then tucked away for several years, developing further before release.
Brilliant straw, Medhurst Reserve Chardonnay has superb complexity and length, with plenty of citrus flavours and toasty oak. Cellaring potential is eight years.
