Wine

Plantagenet Icon Tony Smith Shiraz is named after winery founder and pioneer of the modern Western Australian wine industry Tony Smith.

The fruit draws from the Bouverie Vineyard, first planted in 1968 by Tony Smith, at Mount Barker in the Great Southern wine region. It is picked in the cool of the morning.

After gentle destemming, the fruit is chilled and transferred to small open fermenters for cold soaking. The ferment is allowed to warm naturally before being inoculated with a cultured yeast strain.

The ferments see regular gentle plunging and pump overs with aeration. They remain on skins for around three weeks before being drained, pressed and racked to new and seasoned French oak for maturation.

The final blend is a selection of the best barrels, which are racked to tank and rested for two months prior to filtration and bottling.

Deep purple, Plantagenet Icon Tony Smith Shiraz has dense fruit flavours, a savoury edge and fine, gravelly tannins.

A full bodied yet stylish cool climate Shiraz. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
