Escalier Shiraz
Wine
Moppity Vineyards Escalier Shiraz is named for the French word for 'staircase'. The wine is a representation of Moppity's gradual yet unrelenting climb in quality.
It is sourced from an old vine, low yielding single block in the cool climate Hilltops region in New South Wales. The grapes are handpicked.
Shiraz fruit and a small amount of Viognier are cold soaked for three days with varying amounts of whole bunch inclusion. The varieties undergo temperature controlled co-fermentation for 14 days.
The wine is barrel aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak for at least 14 months before bottling. It matures for a further three years in bottle prior to release.
Deep dark purple, Moppity Vineyards Escalier Shiraz is placing Hilltops on the map for cool climate Shiraz.
It is smooth and refined yet packed with flavour, richly layered with sweet black fruits and a long, powerful finish. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
