Estate Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
Medhurst Estate Vineyard Chardonnay is drawn from the middle and upper slopes of the estate vineyard at Gruyere in the Yarra Valley. The shallower, gravelly soils lend the fruit subtle mineral notes.
The grapes are handpicked and cooled overnight. The following morning they are whole bunch pressed, yielding pristine but very cloudy juice.
The juice is transferred with full solids to new and seasoned French oak barrels for indigenous yeast fermentation. A portion is also allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation to increase complexity.
After nine months maturing in barrel, the wine is blended to tank with full lees. It is bottled with minimal filtration.
Pale straw green, Medhurst Estate Vineyard Chardonnay finely balances flinty and creamy textures. White stone fruits frame a frisky natural acidity. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
