Wine
Golden Ball Saxon Shiraz is sourced from the estate Lineage Vineyard at Beechworth, planted in 2005. It is a steeply sloping site with soils strewn with granite buckshot.
The vines produce low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. The grapes are picked in a series of stages, only days apart, in the cool of the morning to preserve fruit quality.
After cold soaking for 48 hours, the fruit is fermented with indigenous yeasts. Post ferment the wine rests on skins, then is pressed to one third new French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and 18 months of maturation.
Deep crimson purple, Golden Ball Saxon Shiraz is a cool climate Shiraz with a core of dark berry flavours and long length. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
