Chertsey Cabernet Blend
Wine
Penley Estate Chertsey Cabernet Blend is grown on Coonawarra's famous terra rossa soils, a thin band of vivid red earth overlaying soft limestone.
Chertsey is the village in England where early generations of the winery's founding family the Tolleys lived. It is also the name of the Adelaide homestead that housed three generations of the family.
The wine is a Bordeaux style blend, comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The varieties are co-fermented in headed down tanks, which keep the skins submerged to extract colours and flavours.
Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place over 24 months, primarily in seasoned French oak. The wine spends a further six months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
Deep crimson, Penley Estate Chertsey Cabernet Blend is medium to full bodied with juicy fruit flavours framed by mouth coating tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
