Sandalford Sandalera draws on the winery's long history of producing fortified wines. It is sourced from old Swan Valley vines grown in a warm maritime climate and fertile volcanic soils just north-east of Perth.
Pedro Ximénez (the traditional Sherry variety) and Muscadelle grapes ripen on the vine until raisined and high in sugar, then are handpicked. They are crushed and soaked on skins for 24 hours before draining and pressing.
The fermenting juice is fortified with a grape spirit and transferred to old barrels, where it is cellared for up to 25 years in a solera system. At bottling, the wine has been blended to an average age of 15 years.
Deep amber tawny, Sandalford Sandalera is a sweet, smooth dessert wine with rich raisin characters, toffee flavours and nutty oak. Fully matured in barrel, it is ready to drink.
