Wine
Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is made from the original 1963 plantings. The vines for the Amelia are all dry farmed – that is, there is no irrigation.
The vines produce tiny berries with strong fruit flavours. While the exact proportions vary year to year, the breakdown of the blend is typically 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot.
Wantirna Estate use concrete fermenters. The wine sees extended skins contact. The blend takes longer to complete fermenting than the winery's other red varieties. Only tiny quantities are made.
Deep inky red, Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is medium bodied, intense yet elegant, and fruity with fine silky tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
