1995 Grange

Vintage reviews

Sourced from the Barossa Valley and the Magill Estate (Adelaide). Shiraz (94%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%).

Despite a difficult vintage, rigorous selection of intensely flavoured grapes from mature vines in some of the finest South Australian vineyards produced a wine that exceeded expectations.

17 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads.

92/100

An impressive Grange that may ultimately prove to be underrated, like many wines from this vintage, the 1995, a blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibits a saturated plum/purple color and a sweet blackberry liqueur nose intermixed with cassis, licorice, and new oak.

The wine is textured, jammy, full-bodied, with impressive levels of extract, glycerin, and black fruit flavors. It is long, ripe, with unobtrusive acidity and tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2004–2018.
