1970 Grange
Vintage reviews
Despite carrying many different Bin numbers in the early years, Grange was always labelled Bin 95 from the 1970 vintage.
This wine is a favourite of Don Ditter, who worked at Penfolds from 1946 and succeeded Max Schubert as chief winemaker in 1975.
Sourced from the Barossa Valley (including Kalimna Vineyard) and Magill Estate (Adelaide). Dry growing season with rainfall 40% less than normal. Mild, dry conditions at vintage.
Shiraz (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). Eighteen months in new American oak hogsheads.

The attractive, chocolate, mocha, coffee-like nose exhibits more spice than fruit. While this is a full-bodied, tannic, round, generous wine, it is also rustic and coarse with noticeable alcohol.
It will keep for another decade, but do not expect any miracles to occur.
