After a decade getting his hands dirty at Petaluma, and vintages in France and the US, Dean Hewitson founded Hewitson in 1998. It lies along Seppeltsfield Road in the heart of the Barossa Valley.

Hewitson's foundation is their historic, dry grown Barossa vineyards, in particular their 1853 Old Garden Vineyard. It famously has eight rows of dry grown, pre-phylloxera Mourvèdre, the oldest known plantings in the world. Alongside other Barossa sites – including their Monopole Vineyard which resurrected an ancient clone of Shiraz – they source fruit from the Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. The vineyards use solar energy, recycled water and support natural biodiversity.

Hewitson's Monopole Mother Vine Shiraz and Old Garden Mourvèdre are leading expressions of Barossa soil, season and history. The Gun Metal Riesling stands out among the whites.
