Winery
Established around a neglected ironstone chapel built by Methodist settlers in 1865, Tom Nelson founded Chapel Hill in 1972. Since then the Sellick, Gerrard and Schmidheiny families have added to the business, today owned by the Endeavour Group.
Perched on the edge of the Onkaparinga Gorge, Chapel Hill overlooks McLaren Vale and Gulf St Vincent. Boasting elevation, ancient rocky soils, contoured plantings and moderating sea breezes, the vineyard has a series of unique blocks, all sustainably managed. Grapes from like-minded McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills growers supplement Chapel Hill's fruit. In the winery small batch winemaking articulates pure McLaren Vale characters in the wine.
The Vicar Shiraz leads the Chapel Hill congregation. Their single block wines and old vine selections are not far behind, with the House Block Shiraz, Gorge Block Cabernet Sauvignon and 1897 Vines Grenache among the finest.
