At the Winery
Winery
Founded by Denis and Margaret Pooley in 1985, Pooley is now in its third generation with siblings Matthew and Anna Pooley in charge of the business. The cellar door is the old Coach House adjacent to the historic 1832 Belmont property.
Pooley began with just seven rows of Pinot Noir and 10 rows of Riesling. Today they have two vineyards, the first fully credited environmentally sustainable vineyards in Tasmania. The original Cooinda Vale Vineyard is tucked away in a nook of Campania's hills, while the Butcher's Hill Vineyard is a prominent feature of the Richmond landscape. Pooley use natural inputs from vine to wine, minimal intervention capturing the truest expressions of site.
Pooley champions classic Tasmanian varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The Jack Denis Pooley Pinot Noir and Margaret Pooley Tribute Riesling stand out. J.R.D. Syrah is another highlight.
