J.R.D. Syrah
Wine
Pooley J.R.D. Syrah is named after second generation Pooley John Roy Dennis. It draws from a tiny block of the Cooinda Vale Vineyard at Campania in the Coal River Valley.
Most of the grapes are destemmed, with a small percentage included as whole bunches. Wild yeast fermentation takes place over 10 days before the wine is pressed and aged in medium toast, tight grained French oak barrels, one third new.
Deep red purple, Pooley J.R.D. Syrah is made in limited quantities. It is medium bodied with crunchy bramble and blue fruit flavours, integrated tannins and layered complexity.
Its cool climate style is akin to that of the northern Rhône in France. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
