Philip Shaw was first struck by the Orange region on a flyover scoping out vineyards as chief winemaker for Southcorp. In 1988 he bought the Koomooloo Vineyard, establishing his own winery. Today sons Daniel and Damien Shaw are at the helm.
The Koomooloo Vineyard lies on undulating countryside 900 metres above sea level near Mount Canobolas, the highest peak of Orange. It is not unusual for the vines to see snowfall during winter, with cool conditions persisting into the growing season. The climate and volcanic soils yield fruit with defined varietal character. At Philip Shaw Wines they approach the winemaking with a healthy mix of innovation and unrelenting quality standards.
Philip Shaw Wines superior Number series showcases the best of the Koomooloo Vineyard, led by the No.5 Cabernet Sauvignon and No.89 Shiraz. The more approachable Character series has a colourful cast.
