Winemaker Caroline Mooney established Bird on a Wire in 2008. Raised on a local Yarra Valley dairy farm, Caroline learned her craft at Yering Station under Tom Carson and in France's Rhône Valley at respected producer J.L. Chave.

The thinking driving Bird on a Wire is to create wines of true varietal character. Single vineyard wines are the focus. The fruit is handpicked from some of the most sought after Yarra Valley vineyards, each chosen for its suitability to a particular variety. It's about the timing: knowing when to pick the right fruit, at precisely the right moment. Small production volumes, careful vineyard tending and innovative winemaking are the winery's signature.

Bird on a Wire make a selection of single vineyard wines including Chardonnay and Syrah: varieties the Yarra Valley does best. A Marsanne and, more recently, Pinot Noir and Rosé complete the line-up.
