1000 Crowns Shiraz
Wine
Credaro 1000 Crowns Shiraz is sourced from two vineyards in Margaret River: the Summus Vineyard in the heart of Wilyabrup and the estate's southernmost vineyard in Witchcliffe.
In the 1920s, the Credaro brothers paid the sum of 1,000 crowns for their first parcel of land in Margaret River. Their 1000 Crowns range takes its name from this defining event in the winery's history.
The fruit is destemmed to both static and open fermenters, with the whole berries undergoing some carbonic maceration. The static ferments receive regular pump overs while the open ferments are hand plunged.
A portion of the wine is fermented to dryness on skins then pressed after a fortnight. The balance is left a little longer on skins to even out the tannin profile.
The wine completes malolactic fermentation and matures for 10 months in French barrels, a small proportion new. It is minimally fined with egg whites prior to bottling.
Deep purple red, Credaro 1000 Crowns Shiraz has savoury, earthy notes with brooding dark fruit flavours that persist through the finish. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
