Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz
Wine
Wolf Blass Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz has been sourced from Langhorne Creek since its first vintage in 1967. Diverging from the heavy red wines of the time, it was created with a softer style in mind.
The fruit is grown on the banks of the Bremer River, where flooding provides natural irrigation. It also carries debris from the surrounding gum trees into the vineyard, leaving behind silt rich in eucalyptus oil.
The qualities of the soil come through in the fruit. The grapes ferment in small open fermenters. Plunging and gentle irrigation of the skins ensure the fruit flavours are concentrated and the tannins are plush.
Selected parcels complete fermentation in barrel, while others remain on skins to build length. Maturation is in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels.
Deep crimson purple, Wolf Blass Grey Label Cabernet Shiraz has a distinctive minty allure that speaks of its soil, with brambly fruit notes and long, fine tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
