Zinfandel
Wine
Cape Mentelle Zinfandel was introduced from California in 1974. The fruit is sourced from a block of bush vines planted at the western edge of the Wallcliffe Vineyard.
A particularly demanding variety to manage, the vines are judiciously hand pruned and leaf plucked. However the rewards are reaped in the cellar. It has been a Cape Mentelle favourite for many years.
After cold soaking, the variety's American heritage is conceded with a traditional long maceration. Fermented to dryness, the wine is basket pressed to oak for malolactic fermentation and 18 months of ageing.
Deep magenta, Cape Mentelle Zinfandel has opulent fruit flavours, Christmas cake spices, and exceptional length. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
