Burnside Vineyard Chardonnay
Wine
McHenry Hohnen Burnside Vineyard Chardonnay is grown on a sharp bend of the Margaret River, just a few kilometres inland from the Indian Ocean.
Planted in 1981, the Burnside Vineyard is one of the older vineyards in the region. The vines grow on a steep northerly aspect in unique micaceous black soils.
The grapes are handpicked and whole bunch pressed. The juice is transferred to new and seasoned French oak barrels with full solids for wild fermentation. Partial malolactic fermentation and ageing on lees follows.
After several months with bâtonnage (lees stirring) every two weeks, the wine is racked with full lees to tank to mature further. There is no filtration at bottling.
Straw green, McHenry Hohnen Burnside Vineyard Chardonnay is generous in flavour and acidity with creamy texture and oyster shell minerality. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
