FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz
Wine
In 1974 Yalumba created an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz blend known simply as Fine Dry Red 1A. It is typically a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Shiraz.
The fruit is sourced from exceptional sites in the cool Eden Valley: the Cabernet near Moculta from 1980 planted vines, and the Shiraz from a Light Pass vineyard planted in 1919.
Select parcels are crushed to smaller open top stainless steel fermenters, while most ferment in larger fermenters. Natural yeasts present on the grape skins initiate fermentation, cultured yeasts are then added to completion.
After draining and pressing off skins the wine matures for 16 months in one third new French oak barriques.
Dense crimson, Yalumba FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz is medium bodied, layered with sweet fruit complexity, with refined tannins finishing long. Cellaring potential is seven years.
