Wine
Wendouree Cabernet Malbec is from the winery's historic Clare Valley vineyard, planted in 1893. Dry grown in red brown loam soils over shale and limestone, the vines produce low yields of exceptional fruit.
The wine is typically a blend of Cabernet and Malbec in equal portions, with a small addition of Shiraz in some vintages.
After handpicking, the grapes ferment in open stainless steel fermenters. This ensures a controlled environment for malolactic fermentation resulting in longer cellaring potential. The wine then matures in predominantly seasoned French oak.
Intense crimson, Wendouree Cabernet Malbec has dark berry and plum flavours, earthy oak, fine acids and firm dry tannins that unite in a long finish. Cellaring potential is 25 years.
