Mattschoss Shiraz
Wine
St Hallett Mattschoss Shiraz is drawn from a single block of vines in an amphitheatre in the Eden Valley. It surrounds a rocky outcrop covered in distinctive native Yucca plants.
The vineyard, owned and tended by the Mattschoss family, is St Hallett's highest Shiraz site, situated at 489 metres elevation.
The grapes, including half as whole bunches, are fermented in large open fermenters. The winemaking is tailored to every parcel of fruit; depending on their needs they are plunged or pumped over several times daily.
For maturation the wine is sent to French oak hogsheads for 10 months, typically one quarter new. Only the best barrels are selected for bottling.
Deep crimson, St Hallett Mattschoss Shiraz has bright blue and red berry flavours. Peppery, spicy characters linger in the background. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
