Moppa Springs
Wine
Rockford Moppa Springs is a blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz from some of the driest areas of the Barossa Valley: Moppa Springs, Ebenezer and Kalimna.
This style is based on the traditional red blends of Châteauneuf du Pape in the Rhône Valley, France. It has gained increasing popularity in Australia, particularly in the Barossa.
The grapes are handpicked and forked into an 1880s wooden destemmer. Fermentation occurs in open slate tanks, with daily pump overs to extract the full flavour and colour of the fruit.
An 1890s basket press slowly squeezes the remaining juice from the grapes. The individual components age separately in an array of seasoned American and French oak casks before the final blend is assembled.
Deep purple, Rockford Moppa Springs is medium bodied with layers of soft, savoury, spicy flavours. Cellaring potential is seven years.
