The Merle Riesling
Wine
Pikes The Merle Riesling is named after the family matriarch Merle Pike. It is the leading Pikes Riesling, made only in exceptional vintages from the best parcels of fruit.
The grapes are sourced from the winery's Gill's Farm and Hill Blocks, home to the oldest ungrafted vines on the vineyard. Harvest occurs in the cool of the night.
The fruit is promptly delivered to the winery, where it is chilled down and pressed within just 30 minutes. This minimizes skin contact with the juice and keeps the fruit flavours bright and fresh.
Only the free run juice is kept for fermentation with neutral yeast. The wine remains in stainless steel on lees for three months to develop depth and texture before bottling.
Brilliant pale green, Pikes The Merle Riesling is brimming with bright citrus flavours, mouth watering acidity and a talc like texture. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
