Wine
Mount Majura Vineyard Dry Spur Tempranillo is grown on the estate's sloping Dry Spur Block. It reaches 698 metres elevation, with the soils become thinner and bonier towards the top of the slope.
The block was originally planted to Merlot in 1999, but was transitioned to Tempranillo in 2009. The vines are hand harvested.
The fruit undergoes several days of pre-ferment maceration, then is wild fermented in hand plunged open vats. After a period of post-ferment maceration the wine is pressed to French oak to age. At bottling it receives no fining and only light filtration.
Dry Spur Tempranillo is one of three of Mount Majura Vineyard’s single site Tempranillo wines, produced only in years where the quality and volume allow.
Youthful purple red, Mount Majura Vineyard Dry Spur Tempranillo has fresh blue fruit flavours, hints of oak and grainy, chewy tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
