Greenock Shiraz
Wine
Kalleske Greenock Shiraz draws from the only Kalleske block that does not adjoin the home property at Moppa, located on the western edge of Greenock Creek in the northern Barossa Valley.
This site grows in shallow sandy loams over deep red clay, ideal for Shiraz. Its original cuttings were taken from old vine Kalleske Shiraz planted in the late 1800s.
The grapes are picked in separate batches over several days. After destemming, the fruit is open fermented at warm temperatures with hand pump overs twice daily. It remains on skins for 7-9 days before pressing.
The wine completes the ferment in one third new American and French oak hogsheads. Natural malolactic fermentation follows, alongside over a year of ageing.
Opaque purple, Kalleske Greenock Shiraz is a refined, full bodied wine with dense dark fruits, robust tannins and oak playing a supporting role. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
