Allingham Chardonnay
Wine
Howard Park Allingham Chardonnay is Howard Park's flagship white. It is made from the best blocks of Chardonnay grown on the south facing slopes of the Allingham Vineyard at Karridale in Margaret River.
The vineyard name honours Muriel Allingham, the Burch family matriarch. Each vineyard block is vinified separately at the winery. Traditional methods produce a wine that is evocative of its cool climate site.
The handpicked fruit cools overnight in vented crates. It is then whole bunch pressed to extract the free run juice. After minimal settling, the juice is naturally fermented in French oak barrels, about 40% new.
The wine matures on lees for nine months, with some parcels undergoing malolactic fermentation. After blending, it is bottled with minimal fining and filtration.
Pale straw, Howard Park Allingham Chardonnay has layered stone fruit and citrus flavours, fine mineral texture and bright acidity delivering length. Cellaring potential is six years.
